On June 25, 2024, the Ministry of the Interior in Taiwan announced amendments to the 'Act on Supplementing Soldiers for Conscription Positions Due to Family Factors and Alternative Service Positions' to address decreased military personnel amid rising tensions between both sides. The revisions aim to supplement soldiers by allowing certain individuals to serve based on family factors or alternative service positions, expecting an increase of around 1,925 regular soldiers returning annually and about 2,560 transitioning to alternative service. The adjustments aim to maintain a fair military service system. The amendments also involve increases in living allowances for obligated servicemen and adjustments in terms of service durations and salaries, aligning with national defense needs and ensuring family support during service.
