In addition to geopolitical and economic competitions, tensions between the United States and China have now affected civilian exchanges as well. Four American teachers from Cornell College visiting North China University in Jilin were attacked with a knife in a local park on the Dragon Boat Festival, fortunately without life-threatening injuries. The incident, suspected to be due to unemployment and increasing anti-American sentiments, has led to a decrease in American students studying in China. The attack raises concerns over the escalating hostility between the two countries.
