On June 26, 2024, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the Pyongyang area towards the East Sea, but South Korean military reported that the missile likely failed. It is speculated that North Korea's test was to assess the performance of a hypersonic ballistic missile, but it exploded in the air after flying about 250 kilometers, with debris falling outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. In addition to the missile launch, North Korea also sent around 250 garbage balloons towards South Korea on the 25th evening, with over 100 landing in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province and Seoul area, carrying paper waste weighing up to 10 kilograms and posing no security threat. This marks the sixth balloon attack this year, with flights at Incheon Airport briefly halted for about 3 hours for safety reasons.
