Sales of Tesla's China-made electric vehicles dropped by 6.6% year-on-year to 72,573 units in May, marking the second consecutive monthly decline according to the China Passenger Car Association. This drop follows an 18% decrease in April, attributed to Tesla's reduction of Model Y production in its Shanghai plant since March to address reduced demand. Meanwhile, Chinese competitor BYD saw a 38.2% increase in sales of its passenger vehicles in May. Delivery improvement was noted for China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, with BYD's Dynasty and Ocean series contributing to the growth.
