Tesla Surpasses Rivals in Greenhouse Gas Credits in 2023

Reported about 7 hours ago

In 2023, Tesla accrued nearly 34 million metric tons of greenhouse gas credits by selling electric vehicles, while other automakers such as General Motors struggled with significant credit deficits due to new emissions standards. The Environmental Protection Agency reported that the average fuel economy increased to a record high of 27.1 mpg, but the auto industry as a whole faced a deficit of nearly 11 million metric tons in credits, with GM leading the losses. Despite these challenges, the industry maintains a surplus of credits for future compliance.
