According to a UN expert, Thai banks have emerged as the primary international financial service providers for Myanmar's military government, aiding in the procurement of arms and equipment used in the violent crackdown on pro-democracy movements. The UN report details how the military junta has shifted financial suppliers after facing sanctions, with 16 banks across seven countries involved in military procurement transactions and 25 banks providing services to Myanmar's state-owned banks. While the junta's weapons procurement declined, the report highlights how Thai banks have played a significant role in facilitating the financial needs of Myanmar's ruling military.
