The Thai government is set to nominate former finance minister Kittiratt Na Ranong for the chair of the Bank of Thailand, aiming to influence monetary policy amid ongoing disputes over interest rates. Kittiratt, who has previously clashed with the central bank on monetary issues and recently supported calls for a rate cut to stimulate economic growth, is backed by the ruling Pheu Thai Party. The decision on the nomination will be made by a seven-member panel and must be approved by the finance minister and the cabinet.
