Thai Prime Minister Announces New Government Will Not Consider Imposing Entry Fees on Tourists

Reported 11 months ago

Thai Prime Minister Saita announced that the previous plan to impose a 300 Baht entry fee on tourists entering Thailand has been canceled due to opposition from private enterprises. The proposal to impose entry fees on tourists was approved by the National Tourism Policy Committee in 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic. While the plan was approved by the Thai Cabinet in February last year, the new government prioritizes tourism and is reconsidering the benefits of such fees. Saita stated that not imposing entry fees could stimulate the economy further as tourists might spend more on shopping and other activities.
