Thailand's same-sex marriage bill has successfully passed the Senate, marking a significant step towards marriage equality in Southeast Asia. The legislation, an amendment to the Civil and Commercial Code, will grant same-sex couples aged 18 and above rights to marriage registration, inheritance, tax benefits, and child adoption. The bill has received strong support from Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's administration, aiming to enhance Thailand's reputation as an LGBTQ-friendly destination. Once published in the Royal Gazette, the law will come into effect, making Thailand the third Asian country and around the 40th worldwide to recognize same-sex marriage.
