A Costco Executive membership, although $60 more expensive than the basic membership at $120, offers the perk of 2% cash back on purchases, essentially guaranteeing you won't lose money on the upgrade. If you spend over $3,000 a year at Costco, the 2% cash back could cover the upgrade cost. If you don't earn enough cash back to recoup the $60 fee, Costco allows you to downgrade your membership to the basic one and refund the difference. This policy makes upgrading to an Executive membership a financially low-risk choice.
