The Zhubei Interstellar Blue Basketball Court, the first of its kind in the city, combines features of frisbee and Hakka straw hats, showcasing a unique and practical aesthetic. The court was officially opened on June 17th, with Mayor Cheng Chao-Fang inviting guests to unveil the new facility, which cost 55 million NT dollars for renovations including floor reformation, transparent canopy structures, new basketball equipment, and circular recreational facilities. Funding from the Hakka Affairs Council and joint efforts from central and local governments have made the court more comprehensive. Featuring a design with 'interstellar guests' as a metaphor for Hakka culture and incorporating elements of straw hats resembling alien UFOs, the court not only prioritizes functionality but also integrates urban aesthetics with warm colors and metallic cool tones, complemented by passing trains adding a unique touch, especially evident at night with the lighting design making it appear like an interstellar train station. The Hakka Affairs Council Chairperson Gu Xiu-fei remarked on the collaboration between central and local authorities in creating a basketball court with a unique blend of 'UFOs and straw hats,' aiming to promote Hakka culture through sports and continuing to work with local communities for cultural inheritance. Mayor Cheng Chao-Fang invited the star players from the Taiwan Beer basketball team to inaugurate the court in 'interstellar-style.' The Taiwan Beer Basketball Team Chairperson Chen Mei-ling expressed gratitude for the Zhubei City Government's support for basketball sports, highlighting the benefits of the Zhubei Interstellar Basketball Court for basketball enthusiasts who can now play without worrying about the weather, with plans to promote basketball activities at the venue. The court is open from 6 am to 10 pm daily, welcoming sports enthusiasts regardless of weather conditions, offering amenities such as circular seating areas, restrooms, and parking spaces, promoting a healthy and aesthetically pleasing urban lifestyle for all visitors.
