Amid frequent power outage incidents in Taiwan, despite the Ministry of Economic Affairs repeatedly claiming no power shortage, doubts about Taiwan's power shortage have been rising. The upcoming decommission of Reactor No. 1 at Nuclear Power Plant No. 3 by July 27 is also under scrutiny. Minister of Economic Affairs Guo Zhihui stated that the extension of operations at Nuclear Power Plant No. 3 would respect the decision of the Legislative Yuan. The public seems to support the necessity of amending the law for the extension, advocating for 64.1% in favor. Guo emphasized his respect for the Legislative Yuan, stating that the ministry would execute whatever is passed. Discussions also included challenges related to establishing AI data or R&D centers due to high power consumption and the reluctance towards setting up power plants within certain jurisdictions, despite welcoming investments from AI companies.
