Affecting as many as 5% of American children, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) remains under-diagnosed and under-supported in the US. Children with FASD may struggle with cognitive function, learning, memory, behavior regulation, and social interactions, leading many to face challenges in school and juvenile justice systems. Despite the prevalence of FASD, lack of awareness, funding cuts, and misdiagnoses contribute to the invisibility and desperation felt by families. Early intervention and support services for children with FASD are crucial, yet families and experts emphasize the need for increased awareness, funding, and legislative support to address this hidden disorder effectively.
