Mei Jiashu, the Chief of the General Staff, wore a suit to the Legislative Yuan for questioning, becoming the second Chief of the General Staff to do so after 26 years. Mei explained that he wore a suit because his colleagues at the Ministry of National Defense all dressed that way, and due to the different time and space environment, some adjustments were made. The Legislative Yuan's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee invited the Minister of National Defense, Gu Lixiong, to report on the planning of the 'Han Guang Exercise No. 40' and be questioned. Mei's predecessor, Tang Fei, wore military uniform to the Legislative Yuan in 1998. Mei's choice of attire sparked curiosity, with Mei clarifying that despite the General Staff being responsible for military orders, after organizational adjustments within the Ministry of National Defense, colleagues attending the Legislative Yuan all wear suits. This move reflects adjustments based on the different time and space environment at the present moment.
