The Story of Olympic and Paralympic Medals: Tradition, History, and 2024 Paris Games

Reported 4 months ago

Olympic medals have a rich history dating back to the first modern Olympics in 1896, where gold, silver, and bronze were not the standard yet. Nowadays, the medals consist mostly of silver with a thin layer of gold on the outside, worth around $750 to $850 purely based on material value. For the 2024 Paris Games, each medal will feature an 18-gram piece of wrought iron from the Eiffel Tower, paying tribute to France's iconic landmark, and will have a hexagonal shape reflecting the country's nickname 'L'hexagone'. The design will include the Olympic rings and Nike on the front and braille engravings of 'Paris' and '2024' on the back for Paralympic medals.
