Being a spiritual leader today comes with immense personal tolls such as burnout, trauma, and health challenges, often unacknowledged. The COVID-19 pandemic and increasing polarization have added to the stress clergy and chaplains face, with concerns of a potential 'great resignation.' Research shows significant mental health risks for spiritual leaders even prior to the pandemic, with many experiencing extreme stress and trauma on the front lines of human suffering and conflict. Efforts are being made to support and equip spiritual leaders for the challenges they face.
