New Jersey Beaches Issued Water Quality Advisories Due to Fecal Bacteria Contamination

Reported 4 months ago

Three New Jersey beaches, including the Fifth Avenue bayside beach in Seaside Park, the 18th Avenue beach in North Wildwood, and Forget-Me-Not Beach in Wildwood Crest, are under swimming advisories as of May 29 due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria (enterococci) detected in water samples, posing a risk of gastroenteritis and other infections. The advisories are triggered when enterococci levels exceed 104 colony forming units per 100 milliliters of water, and the contamination is likely due to untreated sewage and animal waste runoff. These beaches are open to the public but will be retested the following day.
