Thought it was just anemia! Chinese Saleswoman Exhausted Daily, Entire Family of 4 Diagnosed with 'Vampire Disease'

Reported 8 months ago

A Chinese saleswoman initially mistook her fatigue for anemia, but was diagnosed with 'porphyria,' a rare genetic disorder that causes sensitivity to light and other severe symptoms. Astonishingly, her whole family of four was found to carry the same gene mutation. Proper treatment has led to improvement for the woman, but her children are at risk of developing the disease in the future. The husband, however, was identified as a carrier of the mutated gene but will not develop symptoms.
