An incident of drowning occurred in Maqia, Pingtung hometown yesterday as a group of three Filipino women visited Salah Bay Waterfall; a 34-year-old woman fell into the water and was confirmed dead by rescue personnel using a drone. The fire department was alerted by one of the women via a 3-way call and 1955 hotline translation service due to language barrier, providing the location through LINE. Despite the remote location of the waterfall, where permission is required to enter and locals consider it sacred, the incident unfolded tragically. This is not the first drowning to occur at the waterfall, with the rescue operation being particularly challenging due to the rainy conditions and swift currents in the mountainous area.
