Tokyo Disney Operator Expands into Cruise Business with Over 30 Billion Yen Investment, Luxury Cruise to Set Sail in 2028

Oriental Land, the operator of Tokyo Disneyland, announced on July 9, 2024, their entry into the cruise business with an investment of around 330 billion yen for a cruise set to sail in 2028. The cruise will mainly focus on 2 to 4 night short-term round trips from Tokyo ports, with plans to discuss routes visiting foreign ports as well. This cruise, touted to be Japan's largest with a tonnage of about 140,000 tons, will start construction from the fiscal year 2025 and have a capacity of accommodating 4,000 passengers. The cruise aims to attract around 400,000 passengers annually, generating approximately 100 billion yen in revenue. The operating profit margin is projected to be around 20%, similar to the existing theme park business, offering customers a unique experience different from theme parks.
