On July 17, 2024, it was reported that Tokyo Gas, Japan's largest metropolitan gas supplier, experienced a data breach involving the unauthorized access of user information from one of its subsidiaries. Approximately 4.16 million personal records may have been compromised, including names, addresses, and contact details, though no banking information was involved. The company has not yet received reports of identity theft and is conducting an investigation while apologizing to those affected. Additionally, about 3,000 employee records, including some banking details, have also been compromised.
