Tokyo University students protested at the National Diet building on June 14th over discussions regarding tuition fee adjustments at various Japanese universities. Following Tokyo University's proposal to raise annual tuition by around 100,000 yen (about 2,000 NTD) per year, students and teachers staged protests. They submitted petitions to the government supporting increased subsidies to offset tuition hikes, emphasizing that increased fees will limit access to higher education for all. Opposition party lawmaker Kenji Izumi joined the protest, denouncing tuition hikes and stressing education as a fundamental right.
