Tongluo Temple Supported as Ammunition Depot? Village Chief: Petitioning to Withdraw Plan

Reported 12 months ago

The Miaoli County Reserve Command recently sent a letter to Tongluo Village's Jiuhu Temple and other temples, requesting them to sign an 'Ammunition Depot Support Agreement' document. However, the village chief expressed that the villagers cannot agree and initiated a petition to withdraw the plan, as they want to safeguard the temple from being involved in wartime ammunition storage responsibilities. The Reserve Command clarified that the agreement aimed to enhance logistical support resilience by utilizing civilian resources for training purposes, with no actual ammunition placement. The village will hold a meeting on the temple's involvement in the Fude Temple project and plan to submit a petition in mid-July to urge the county's Reserve Command to reconsider the location for ammunition storage. The chief emphasized that involving religious sites in warfare disrespects them and questioned the necessity of temples for such purposes.
