The Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan released the top 10 causes of death for last year, showing a decrease in the number of deaths primarily due to the reduction in COVID-19 fatalities. Cancer has maintained the top position for 42 consecutive years, while traffic accidents are identified as the main cause of accidental deaths, accounting for 43.4%. The report also highlights a decrease in overall national deaths and projects a further decline in COVID-19 fatalities in 2024. Suicide ranks as the 11th leading cause of death, with an increase in fatalities among various age groups. Efforts to improve road safety, including promoting a culture of yielding, are emphasized by authorities.
