A series of car accidents occurred on Highway 1 in the Madou section when three tour buses collided due to inadequate safe distance, but fortunately, despite the near hundred pilgrims on board being frightened, there were no casualties. The incident took place in the morning around 8 am as the buses were traveling from Taichung to Tainan. The tour bus at the front was hit by the middle bus, and the last bus rear-ended the middle one. Although the buses suffered significant damage, all passengers were unharmed, and alternative transportation was arranged for them.
