In New Taipei's Jiufen Old Street on July 6, 2024, a popular spot for foreign tourists in Taiwan, a tour bus heading towards the street rear-ended three vehicles at the Sijiaoting Tunnel on Route 62, causing a chain reaction collision involving a total of five vehicles. Most passengers were from Hong Kong, South Korea, or Southeast Asia and were left frightened after the accident. The bus driver, suspected of momentarily daydreaming, caused the collisions resulting in shattered front bumper and windshield glass, prompting the scared passengers to disembark quickly. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and alternative transport was arranged for the passengers to continue their journey in Jiufen.
