Toyota and Sumitomo Metal Mining have made significant progress in developing cathode materials for all-solid-state batteries designed for electric vehicles. Their collaboration aims to mass-produce these materials, which promise benefits like enhanced safety and faster charging compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. While challenges such as raw material shortages and high production costs persist, both companies are focused on improving the durability and performance of these materials, with plans to initiate mass production by April 2028.
