Toyota's global sales and production declined in April, with a 0.5% drop in sales attributed to a 27% decrease in China and a 14% decrease in Japan, offsetting growth in the United States and Europe. Toyota faced challenges in China due to a fierce price war and in Japan from production halts and a safety test scandal. The automaker reported a 4.0% decrease in global production, with higher output in the U.S. and India not enough to offset weaker production in other markets like China and Japan. Toyota's hybrid vehicles accounted for nearly 40% of sales, while electric vehicles made up only 2%.
