Pingtung City's Tianqing Temple follows a tradition spanning at least a century, where they use effigies to change fate: straw effigies go into the Bagua Pavilion and paper effigies cross the Seven Star Bridge for luck. The annual fate-changing ritual attracted around 1,200 believers this year, including those in wheelchairs. The temple chairman mentioned that this tradition has been upheld for at least 60 years and is a significant event for the temple, drawing believers from all corners, some even from Taipei, for blessings.
