The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Passage, a 24-kilometer bridge linking Shenzhen and Zhongshan in Guangdong Province, China, commenced its trial operation on June 30th, 2024. However, on the first day, excessive traffic and people stopping on the road shoulder to take photos caused significant congestion, turning a 30-minute journey into a 5-hour ordeal for some travelers. The new passage is intended to cut the travel time from Zhongshan to Shenzhen to just 30 minutes and facilitate business and travel between the two regions, including Hong Kong. Authorities have warned against dangerous behaviors like stopping on the road for photos or obstructing traffic flow to ensure safety and efficiency on the new route.
