Transformation of Police Cemetery into Memorial Park, Issues with Burial Area

Reported about 1 year ago

The police cemetery, in operation for 65 years, faced complaints from nearby residents about noise, air pollution, and property value impact. As part of a recent initiative to transform the area into a park, a police memorial garden was established to improve public perception. However, the large burial area poses challenges for quick handling. Efforts are being made to allocate a budget for renovating the cemetery while preserving the landscape, opening up spaces for leisure activities. Dealing with the burial area remains the most difficult issue due to traditional taboos and difficulties in contacting descendants for relocation. The history of the police cemetery dates back to 1959, when the Taiwan Provincial Police Bureau acquired the land in Taipei's Neihu District to provide a resting place for police officers who died or were killed while serving the country.
