Transportation Ministry Promises US Journalists: Complete Electrification of Public Buses by 2030

The Ministry of Transportation hosted a visit by a group of senior American journalists on June 21, 2024, as part of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Journalism Award Program organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the East-West Center in Hawaii. The journalists discussed Taiwan's primary modes of transportation, development of car passenger services, air pollution prevention measures in the transportation sector, electric vehicle ownership rates and charging infrastructure, and the development of autonomous vehicles. The ministry welcomed the American journalists from prestigious media outlets like POLITICO, NPR, Hawaii News Now, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, aiming to enhance international understanding of Taiwan's transportation policies. During the two-hour exchange, the ministry explained initiatives to increase public transportation usage, improve public transit environments through subsidies, and promote the TPASS policy to encourage public transport use. Additionally, the ministry emphasized efforts towards complete electrification of city buses by 2030 and electric cars and motorcycles by 2040, aligning with global net-zero trends and collaborating with other ministries for strategic planning.
