In the morning at 7:59 AM on July 3, 2024, in front of the Xinhai Tunnel in Taipei City, a tree nearly 3 floors high suddenly collapsed, crushing a touring car and shattering the rear windshield into a spider web pattern. The driver initially thought the car was rear-ended, but luckily, no one was injured. The trunk obstructed both lanes, causing traffic congestion until workers from the Public Works Department removed the tree and restored normal flow after almost an hour. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by deteriorating trees in urban areas and the importance of regular inspections to prevent accidents during extreme weather.
