On June 29, 2024, despite the hot weather without strong winds or heavy rain, several trees collapsed in central and southern Taiwan. A huge banyan tree at Duhu Elementary School in Caotun, Nantou, uprooted and fell, critically injuring a female motorcyclist passing by, while a tree beside Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Tainan also fell and hit a passing car, leaving several dents on the car roof. It raised questions about natural disasters or negligence of trimming trees by relevant authorities, leading affected car owners to seek further compensation.
