Tropical Storm Alberto is gaining strength as it approaches the Gulf coast of Mexico, with the expectation of heavy rainfall in northeastern Mexico and southern Texas. The storm, the first named system of the Atlantic hurricane season, is forecasted to make landfall early Thursday with maximum sustained winds reaching about 50 miles per hour. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already declared a disaster in 51 counties due to the anticipated impact of the storm.
