Steve Bannon, a former core figure in Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and chief strategist in the White House, reported to a federal prison in Connecticut on July 1 to begin his four-month sentence for contempt of Congress in the January 6 Capitol riot investigation. Bannon, who referred to himself as a 'political prisoner' and had been appealing his conviction for nearly two years, was denied further appeals by the Supreme Court. Bannon had been pardoned by Trump in 2020 for federal charges but still faces state charges for allegedly misusing donations collected for the US-Mexico border wall construction.
