Australia has not received an exemption from U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs despite extensive lobbying by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, straining relations between the two allies. The White House announced that tariff levies would be implemented without exceptions for any trading partners, prompting Albanese to label the move as unjustified economic self-harm by the U.S. Although Australia will not retaliate, it intends to push for a reconsideration of the exemption.
