The U.S. State Department responded, clarifying that for decades, Taiwan has been self-funding its defense by purchasing billions of dollars in military equipment from the U.S., which supports American manufacturing and is vital for regional security and the U.S. economy. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized that U.S. support for Taiwan is not charity, and the peace and stability between Taiwan and China are critical for both the U.S. and global economies.
