TSMC Aims for 60% Local Procurement in Japan by 2030

At TSMC's technical forum in Yokohama on June 28, Chairman Wei Zhejia announced the goal for the local procurement rate of the Kumamoto plant in Japan to reach 60% by 2030, aiming to revitalize Japan's semiconductor industry. With Taiwan and Japan collaborating in various areas like semiconductor equipment, materials, and crucial processes, the resurgence of Japan's semiconductor industry seems promising. TSMC's strategic deployment in Japan includes vertical integration in Kumamoto, Yokohama, Osaka, and Ibaraki, indicating a possible shift from concentrating production lines in Taiwan to expanding investments in Japan.
