TSMC's new fab in Dresden, Germany is set to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2024 and be completed by 2027, with plans to hire 2,000 high-level talents. Concerns over talent shortage have arisen, but TSMC-affiliated ESMC stated that they are actively recruiting German and European employees, having started reinforcing semiconductor talent cooperation between Taiwan and Europe in March. A forum discussing Taiwan-Europe semiconductor cooperation was held in Berlin, addressing the potential for collaboration in semiconductor standards and policy coordination. TSMC's COO mentioned the recruitment of 2,000 employees, calling it a good opportunity for cross-cultural collaboration, with the company sending staff from Taiwan to support the German venture. The TSMC-Germany project is expected to boost the Taiwan-Europe semiconductor supply chain. Collaboration between the Dresden University of Technology in Germany and universities from Taiwan has been established to address potential workforce challenges.
