Turkey to Impose 40% Additional Tariffs on Chinese Cars

Reported about 1 year ago

Turkey has announced a presidential decision to impose a 40% additional tariff on vehicles imported from China, with a minimum tariff of $7,000 per vehicle, effective from July 7. This decision follows a previous 40% tariff on electric cars from China in 2023, as Turkey aims to boost its domestic electric car production. Turkey's national car brand, TOGG, began production in 2022, with the first electric SUV Togg T10X priced at $95,300. The Turkish government is providing support for this initiative to enhance industrial competitiveness, offering tax exemptions, land allocation, preferential loan rates, and a commitment to purchase 30,000 cars annually by the end of 2035.
