Senior media personality Wang Rui De was insulted by two netizens named Chen and Cai on Facebook, calling him 'ugly' and having a 'trash mouth'. Wang sued them for defamation, seeking compensation, but the court ruled in favor of Chen and Cai, stating that their comments did not harm Wang's reputation. Wang has previously sued numerous online harassers and supporters of former Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu. The court emphasized freedom of speech in the context of political commentary and media figures having a higher tolerance for criticism. The case can still be appealed.
