On June 25, 2024, at 5:43 am, a Penghu-registered speedboat 'Da Mei' collided with a fishing boat yesterday, resulting in severe damage. In the incident that occurred in the Tongpan Sea area of Penghu yesterday (24th), the speedboat 'Da Mei' collided with the fishing boat 'Xin An Tai Lu', causing the speedboat to rupture and partially sink, losing power. The captain surnamed Xin suffered a hip injury and was promptly taken to Penghu Tri-Service General Hospital by the coast guard for treatment, while the crew and boat of the fishing boat were unharmed and returned to port on their own. The detailed cause of the accident is being investigated by the Penghu Coast Guard. The collision took place at 5:09 pm yesterday, and upon receiving the fishing boat 'Xin An Tai Lu's report, the Penghu Coast Guard dispatched the vessel '10071' to the scene. The speedboat was found to have lost power, with a tilted hull and severe damage on the right side, broken glass in the cabin, and the captain unable to move. The coast guard decided to tow the boat back to Magong Fishing Port for inspection and assisted the injured captain in seeking medical attention. Fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries. The coast guard is currently investigating the circumstances of the collision to ascertain responsibility and address compensation matters. They urge the public to be cautious when sailing in the summer due to the presence of numerous vessels at sea to prevent accidents and advise reporting emergencies to the Fishing Radio or calling the toll-free emergency number 118 for coast guard assistance.
