On June 22, 2024, in Siwan district of Bihar, India, a bridge collapsed causing panic among locals. Just days before, a bridge in Araria district had a similar fate, collapsing in seconds despite costly reconstruction after a previous collapse in 2020. Allegations of poor construction materials and rushed night-time work have emerged, prompting investigations. The responsibility for the bridges falls on the Bihar government's Rural Development Department, not the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
