Reported about 1 year ago
The Criminal Investigation Bureau's Second Brigade received a report in April of the year 112 that the suspects were using communication software to sell personal information of citizens nationwide for a fee equivalent to 500 New Taiwan Dollars in virtual currency per query. Following a search warrant last year, the suspects, Yan and Zhang, were caught with six computer hard drives containing a large amount of personal data. The prosecutor determined that the two men violated the Personal Data Protection Act and recently filed charges. The investigation revealed that the suspects, after receiving payment, would search for individuals nationwide with the same name provided by the customer, analyze their residency and age to pinpoint a specific individual, and then deliver the queried person's personal data (including name, birthday, ID number, phone number, work unit name, and work unit address) back to the customer.
