On June 27, 2024, in Hualien, a man suspected of heatstroke died on the Walami Trail, while another hiker in Wannrong Township was rescued due to a severe ankle fracture. The man on the Walami Trail showed symptoms such as fatigue, rapid heartbeat, and diarrhea before collapsing and passing away. The injured hiker from the Wannrong camp was airlifted by a helicopter and then taken to the hospital by ambulance. The temperature in Hualien soared, causing heat-related incidents across Taiwan, including a postman collapsing from heatstroke and the high heat affecting 460 individuals.
