U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel imports fell to their lowest levels in a decade during the first half of 2025, driven by a significant change in tax credits that now favor domestic production over imports. The Energy Information Administration reported that biodiesel imports dropped from an average of 35,000 barrels per day last year to just 2,000, while renewable diesel imports fell from 33,000 to 5,000 barrels per day. This shift, designed to incentivize local biofuel production, has placed imports at a financial disadvantage and contributed to a slowdown in consumption amid uncertainty over blending requirements.
