The U.S. Department of Defense plans to replace 36 Air Force F-16 fighter jets at Misawa Base in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, with 48 F-35 stealth fighters, marking the first deployment of F-35s in Misawa. Additionally, they also plan to deploy 36 new F-15 jets at Kadena Base in Okinawa to replace retiring old F-15s. Focusing on China, Russia, and North Korea, the U.S. aims to modernize its air combat capabilities over the next few years. Despite concerns over increased noise levels, the deployment aims to enhance deterrence and response capabilities in the region, as Japan's Air Self-Defense Force has already deployed F-35s in Misawa.
