The 'Grey Wolves' hand gesture is linked to the far-right 'Grey Wolves' movement in Turkey, known for its racist ideology advocating for the superiority of the Turkic race and discrimination against other races. The movement, founded in the 1960s and considered as a branch of the extreme nationalist Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), has a history of political assassinations targeting Kurds, Alevi Muslims, socialists, and union members. In Germany, the movement's branch with over 12,000 members is monitored by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, being one of the largest far-right organizations. UEFA's investigation of Turkish player Merih Demiral for the gesture has sparked criticism from the MHP, a political ally of Turkish President Erdogan, denouncing it as biased and wrong. German Interior Minister has condemned the use of far-right and racist symbols, urging UEFA to take action.
