Over 90 countries participated in the 'Ukraine Peace Summit' held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, aiming to gather global opinions in seeking an end to Russia's 27-month-long invasion of Ukraine. Despite Russia not being invited and countries like China absent, weakening the summit's isolation of Russia, 80 countries ultimately signed a joint communique. The communique highlights the humanitarian crises and global risks caused by Russia's war in Ukraine, emphasizes avoiding forceful infringement of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and calls for peaceful conflict resolution. It also stresses the safe operation of all nuclear plants in Ukraine, non-weaponization of food security, and the importance of safe commercial routes in the Black Sea and Azov Sea. The communique urges a comprehensive exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine and the repatriation of Ukrainian children sent out of the country. While countries like India, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE did not sign the communique, EU Commission President von der Leyen called on Russia to respect Ukraine's territorial sovereignty and international voices for peace, stating that patience is essential for the path towards peace.
